This interactive graphic shows a ranking of the absolute number of violent and property crimes reported – not by crime rates based on population. The database would have shown crime rates but population data per neighborhood was not available. The visual database ranks both violent and property crime, for each Richmond neighborhood. Database dates are from Jan. 01, 2010 to May 31, 2011 — which is roughly the past year.

Defining violent and property crime

According to the FBI, violent crime is defined as murder, forcible rape, aggravated assault, and robbery. Property crime is defined as burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, and arson.
